The simple, user-friendly, and child-resistant packaging for pills reduces the force required in the smaller joints of the hand when opening the packaging because of its innovative shape and functionality. It makes it easier for people with conditions such as arthritis. A lid with a large surface area and a characteristic orthogonal slit in the bottom of the container ensure a good grip and slip safe handling. The existing possibilities of production methods are taken into account in every detail of the construction of the packaging. The concept fits well with the standard packaging by its material, colours and production methods yet distinguish itself through its characteristic shape.
Challenge
Many of us know the difficulties related to opening child-resistant pharmaceutical packaging. The most common way of child-proofing packaging is by making the user push the cap down and twist simultaneously. This result in a considerable strain on the smaller joints in the hand and fingers. Especially older people with conditions such as arthritis suffer from not being able to open the child-resistant packaging. This is a severe problem since this exact demographic often needs pharmaceutical products. The biggest problem identified with the current child-resistant packaging are; too small surfaces for proper gripping, lack of friction and the design only support a grip with the fingers/smaller joints.
